While all-in-one cloud practice management software may not be right for everyone, it meets the needs of my family law practice perfectly.
By Shari Rackman, Family Lawyer
As a solo practitioner in family law, it is vital for the success of my practice that I build relationships with technology providers who specialize in the needs of small family law firms. I wanted an all-in-one cloud practice management software that would include case management, family law form automation, billing, timekeeping, and trust accounting. I also wanted to ensure that all the information I use to run my office would be available on every device I own – even from my phone – all the time.
LEAP legal software meets the needs of my family law practice perfectly. Working on the cloud and being able to automatically time record a call made from my cell, draft a motion, or scan an order into the file with my phone’s camera while still in court has transformed my family law practice.
Cloud Practice Management Software and Data Security
Before making the decision to move to cloud practice management software, I was concerned about the security of my clients’ information. I was encouraged to learn that LEAP is powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is trusted by governments and Fortune 500 companies to keep the most sensitive data in the world safe and secure. As a solo family law attorney, it’s comforting to know that my client and case data has the same level of security. AWS servers feature 99.99% uptime; this is important because family law emergencies do not confine themselves to business hours!
Software Designed for Family Law Firms
Being a family law attorney can be a highly emotional yet rewarding area of practice. The software you use should be powerful, intuitive, and it should make your life easier. LEAP works for many areas of general law, but I believe that it is uniquely suited to family law.
This cloud practice management software allows me to access pre-configured family law matter types and automated family law forms. For each family law matter type, there is a checklist of the information required for the kind of family law matter you are filing. Now I only have to enter key client details into my practice management system once, and then I can use the entered information throughout the pendency of the case for letters, forms, time-recording, etc. These pre-configured matter types exist for all other common areas of law as well.
I also have constant access to a wide range of up-to-date legal court forms, like the Statement of Net Worth, Complaints, and Answers at no additional cost. The forms I use every day are automatically populated with my client and case information.
Customer Service is a Key Consideration When Choosing Software
To me, the quality of customer service is as important as the actual software. I like LEAP because the company is small enough that I can still get a real person on the phone who will do everything they can to resolve any issue I’m having, but it’s also large enough that they have the resources to manage my data and maintain the software.
Since I started using this all-in-one cloud practice management software, I have saved time and made more money. I urge my fellow family lawyers who are still on the fence about cloud computing to consider making the move to a cloud-based system that suits the needs of their unique practices as well as LEAP software does for mine.
